Matt Casey Celebrates 5 Years of Service to Richmond Heights City Council

Earlier this year, Partner Matt Casey celebrated five years of service as a Richmond Heights City Council Member.

Matt is currently serving his second term on the city council and will be up for re-election in April 2018. He is thrilled to have the opportunity to serve on the council and to work with residents and the local business community on projects that will strengthen and grow the city for future generations.

“I’m pleased to represent the citizens of Richmond Heights as we honor our city’s past and embrace its progressive future,” said Matt Casey. “There are many opportunities ahead of us. I look forward to working with the council, the residents, and the local business community on projects that will strengthen and grow our community for future generations.”

Over the last year, Matt and the city council have approved several new retail and residential developments, including a $34 million mixed-use luxury apartment project on the site of a vacant church and school. The proposed project did raise concerns with some residents and the city council members had to carefully consider those concerns.   “Many neighbors were concerned about increased traffic and noise pollution,” said Casey. “But any new development will create more traffic and some noise. As a group we had to carefully weigh the concerns of our residents against replacing a depressed area of the city with a more vibrant retail and residential space.” In the end, the majority of the city council agreed that the benefits of the new development outweighed the concerns and the project was approved by an 8-1 vote.

Matt is a life-long resident of Richmond Heights and is a member of Little Flower Catholic Church, where he also volunteers his time and talents. The Casey family has a long history of public service to the city.  Matt Casey’s father, Thomas Casey, previously served on the Richmond Heights City Council and he served as the city’s prosecuting attorney for many years.
