We are excited to kick-off the new year with some big news. We are pleased to announce Anne Brockland has joined the firm as a new partner. Effective January 1, the firm name officially changed to Casey, Devoti & Brockland, P.C.
Anne comes to us with more than 10 years of personal injury trial experience with a special emphasis on medical malpractice. Both her compassion and competitive drive align with our core business values; and we feel she will be a wonderful asset to the firm.
Anne has received numerous accolades throughout her career, including being named both a Rising Star and a Super Lawyer by Missouri & Kansas Super Lawyers Magazine, a Top 40 Under 40 Trial Lawyer by the National Trial Lawyers Association, a Missouri Lawyers Weekly Women’s Justice Awards Rising Star, Best Lawyer – Plaintiffs Personal Injury Litigation by St. Louis Magazine and, most recently, Influential Appellate Advocate by Missouri Lawyers Weekly.

Matt Devoti Reflects on Most Memorable Case
Trial veterans often say that trial lawyers learn more from their losses than their wins. That may be true. But, I think, there are few cases we lose so long as we give our clients our best effort and the opportunity for them to air their grievances to a jury of their peers.
Having said that, there are a handful of cases which have left their mark on me over the past 20 years. To this day I still think of the opportunity that we had representing two young children and their aunts and uncle in a case against the City of Farmington.

A jury recently awarded a firm client $600,000 for serious injuries he sustained in a car crash in the City of St. Louis. Partner Matthew Devoti tried the case over 4 days in mid-August with Judge Clinton Wright presiding. After deliberation, the jury assessed the man’s damages at $600,000 and assigned the majority of fault for the damages to the driver of the vehicle in which he was a passenger.
In late May 2014, the man was a passenger in a vehicle involved in a one-car crash that happened shortly after leaving a St. Louis nightclub. Earlier in the night, the man and his friend spent time at Felix’s Pizza Pub in Dogtown. After Felix’s closed, the men went to the nightclub, Mike Talayna’s Jukebox Restaurant. Minutes after leaving the second bar, the driver crashed the car at the intersection of Tamm and Manchester Avenues in the City of St. Louis. The driver was taking the firm’s client to his home when the crash happened.

For the fifth consecutive year, Partner Matthew Devoti served as ‘Co-Host’ of the event and was again instrumental in planning the fun-filled evening. Guests gathered on the campus of CBC High School where they sipped samples of over 40 different domestic and international wines, noshed on culinary delights from local eateries, and bid on fabulous auction items.

Don’t Get Left in the Dark: Night Driving Safety Tips
When the sun goes down, extra dangers arise on the road. Dark conditions are not ideal for human eyes. As we age, our ability to see clearly at night deteriorates.
The National Safety Council estimates that a 50-year-old driver may need twice as much light to see comfortably over a 30-year old driver.
Limited light can affect depth perception, color perception, contrast sensitivity and peripheral vision. From compromised visibility to impaired drivers, there are plenty of hazards on the road at night. In fact, the NSC estimates that traffic fatalities are three times higher at night than during the day.
Here are some night driving tips from DMV.org:
