As Many As 1 In 8 Drivers Do Not Have Auto Insurance

Don’t skimp when it comes to automobile insurance. It seems this is a very common way for individuals to save money. They cut back on their automobile insurance coverage or just stop paying their premiums altogether. A recent St. Louis Post Dispatch article points out that as many as 1 in 8 drivers on the roads may not have automobile insurance.

“It’s a common problem. A lot of people don’t want to make their insurance payments,” said Larry Case, executive director of the Missouri Association of Insurance Agents.  “In the first six months of this year, more than 500 new customers walked into a local agents office to buy auto insurance. By August, 46 percent had lost coverage for failing to make payments,” he says.  “In other words, there’s a 1 in 8 chance that a driver in a crash will have no coverage.”

But, this trend is all the more reason to make sure YOU carrier full automobile coverage.

Full automobile coverage means coverage for:

  1. collision
  2. liability
  3. uninsured motorist
  4. underinsured motorist
  5. medical payments

Individuals should consider maximizing the coverage limits when possible. That is, do not just ask for the minimum coverage amount required by law. Check with your insurance agent. You will be surprised how relatively inexpensive it is to maximize the coverage amounts on your auto policy.
