Matt represents individuals who have suffered injury – either to their body or financially. In particular, Matt has represented people in claims arising out of automobile collisions, collisions between a locomotive and an automobile, electrical injury, premises liability, insurance policy disputes, medical malpractice, product liability, real estate disputes and Workers’ Compensation.
He formerly represented multiple healthcare providers in claims against the tobacco industry. Matt has tried cases in state and federal court and the Division of Workers’ Compensation. He has also argued cases before the Missouri Supreme Court, the Missouri Court of Appeals, Eastern and Southern Districts, and the Missouri Department of Labor & Industrial Relations. Matt has been rated AV by Martindale-Hubbell. He was named a “Rising Star” by Missouri & Kansas Super Lawyers in 2010 and 2011.
Matt earned his J.D. from the St. Louis University School of Law in 1998, receiving a certificate in Employment Law. His undergraduate degree is from Westminster College. Matt is licensed to practice before the Supreme Court of Missouri and the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri, Western District of Missouri and Kansas.
Matt is a member of the Missouri Bar. In 2010, the Missouri Supreme Court appointed Matt to the Region XI (City of St. Louis) Disciplinary Committee. The Bar’s Board of Governors appointed him to the Client Security Fund Committee in 2007 and Matt completed his term as trustee in 2011. Matt formerly served as an elected member of the Young Lawyers Section Council. And, he also was a member of the 2001-02 Leadership Academy. In addition to Missouri Bar activities, Matt is a member of the Lawyers Association of St. Louis, the Missouri Association of Trial Attorneys, American Association of Justice, and the Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis. The Lawyers Association is the group of trial lawyers and judges from both sides of the bar that practice in the St. Louis metropolitan area. Matt served as President of the Lawyers Association in 2009-2010.
Matt is a frequent presenter to professional groups. Presentations have addressed motion practice in the Circuit Court of the City of St. Louis, dealing with Medicare when it has paid health care costs incurred by an injured person, practice skills for new lawyers, legal considerations when handling injury claims made under uninsured and underinsured motorist provisions of automobile insurance policies, insurance coverage disputes and a presentation to department directors at a hospital in mid-Missouri.
Matt is married. He and his wife, Julie, have three children – Joseph, Sophia and Nicholas.
